The most significant struggle of any project happens within the 5 minutes between thought and action. Action toward completion, or action toward distraction. The bigger the project, the more inclination we’ll have toward avoidance through distraction. Let me reword that: the bigger the project FEELS, the more inclination we’ll have toward avoidance through distraction. The beautiful reality here is that in almost every instance, once you’ve got the momentum going, the project doesn’t feel nearly as daunting as you’d made it out to be. From dejunking the closet to updating Quicken, if you can overcome the gravity of resistance, that’s half the battle! You’re that much closer to winning the war.

Personal Tip: I’ve gotten into the lovely habit of placing my phone on airplane mode during peak work hours. This allows me to focus on what’s most important during my day, rather than getting sucked into mindless distraction and avoidance OR getting sidetracked by other people’s crises. Whatever it is, it can wait for an hour or two. The shocking reality? The world WILL go on spinning without me. Imagine that!
One more thing, the above quote came from my wise and beautiful mommy, Annie Link.
